New head coach Bryan Harsin comes to Auburn with a background on the offensive side of the ball, which of course has many wondering what to expect from the Tigers offensively this fall.

On Wednesday, Harsin joined the Bleav Podcast Network to talk about his offensive philosophy and the transition he’ll be looking to make from the Gus Malzahn era on The Plains.

“The first thing on the offensive side is just the physicality, and it starts in the run game,” Harsin said. “A downhill, physical run game is the most important thing, and from there we can create explosive plays.”

That, however, is just one part of the equation when it comes to offensive success, according to Harsin, who added that an intense focus on preparation is the other key ingredient.

“The other part of it is how we prepare on the offensive side,” Harsin continued. “My background is offense and one of the things I learned from the coaches I worked under is how to prepare. That’s something that always stuck with me.”

As for Auburn’s rushing attack, improvement in that area would certainly help. The Tigers averaged just 162.5 yards per game on the ground in 2020, which ranked 67th nationally.

Harsin and Auburn will try to get the running game off to a fast start in their season opener against Akron on Saturday, Sept. 4.
