The New England Patriots’ first season with Cam Newton did not go well, as the team had its streak of 11 consecutive playoff berths snapped. As the 6-8 Patriots near the finish line, questions are being asked about Newton’s future in New England.

In his most recent media availability, Newton did not directly answer a question about returning in 2021.

“I think the biggest thing is I’m just trying to maximize on the things that I know I have to prove. And that’s starting with Monday (against the Bills),” Newton told reporters, per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald. “That’s simple. I play this game for one reason, and that’s just to win. And we have an opportunity to win on Monday. Let’s just see how that goes.”

That statement follows a recent social media post where he indicated he wanted to be “a part of the solution” in New England.

“I will be the first to tell you that this year has been unacceptable in more ways than one!!,” a portion of the Instagram caption read. “And the standard has been and always will be set; and unfortunately we (I) did not live up to what that standard was at all times or consistently enough!!

“With that being said the answers are in the locker room and one thing I do know about this bunch is that this locker room is filled with guys who want to be a part of the solution including me!!”

This offseason, Newton signed a one-year deal with New England. He has started 13 games, going 216-of-328 passing for 2,381 yards, 5 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He has also run the ball 122 times for 489 yards and 11 TDs.
