The Carolina Panthers selected Auburn DL Derrick Brown with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

However, since presumed starting QB Teddy Bridgewater is already wearing No. 5, Brown won’t be able to wear the number he donned in college.

On Tuesday, the Panthers announced jersey numbers for each of their rookies, and revealed that Brown will instead wear the No. 95 jersey this season.

That number has been used recently, according to the Panthers’ website:

It’s the first time in franchise history that a Panthers first-round pick will wear the number. The most notable No. 95 in franchise history is former defensive end Charles Johnson, who wore it from 2007-2017.

Will Brown have a career like Johnson’s? Or perhaps even better? The Panthers are counting on him to anchor their revamped defensive line.
