Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will sit out against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football due to a concussion.

The former Auburn star sustained the injury in a loss to Atlanta last weekend when rookie linebacker and LSU product Deion Jones nailed him at the goal line on a two-point conversion attempt. Newton, the reigning NFL MVP, has taken several shots to the head this year, but he’ll be sidelined Monday for the first time this season.

Derek Anderson will start for the Panthers, who have limped out to a 1-3 record after last year’s Super Bowl appearance.
