Auburn fans who were hoping to get a glimpse of former star QB Cam Newton in the Carolina Panthers’ preseason game on Saturday will have to wait a little longer.

According to NFL.com, the Panthers are playing it safe with the former NFL MVP and will hold him out of Saturday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Newton is working his way back from offseason shoulder surgery, but has resumed throwing and will likely play in the Panthers’ third preseason game next week against the Jaguars.

For now, though, the team will play it safe with the star quarterback. Considering the beating he took during the 2016 season, that’s probably not a bad idea.
