Cody Parkey is healthy and ready for a new opportunity in the NFL.

On Tuesday, the New Orleans Saints signed Parkey to a deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, shortly after the team released Aldrick Rosas. Parkey had been a free agent since he was released by the Cleveland Browns off injured reserve in August. Parkey was dealing with a quad injury at the time.

Parkey, who played at Auburn from 2010-13, is now in his eighth NFL season. He previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles (2014-15), Cleveland Browns (2016 and 2020), Miami Dolphins (2017), Chicago Bears (2018) and Tennessee Titans (2019).

Over his first 7 years, the 29-year-old Parkey made 121 of his 143 field-goal attempts. That included going 19-for-22 with Cleveland last season.

Although Parkey has been an efficient kicker for much of his career, many know him for the “Double Doink.” In the NFC Wild Card Round at the end of the 2018 season, Parkey missed a potential game-winning 43-yard field goal for the Bears in their matchup against the Eagles, as the ball got partially blocked, hit off the left upright, bounced off the crossbar and fell out into the end zone for a miss.

But Parkey has rebounded from that moment and been a solid kicker in the years since.

The Saints opted to switch kickers after Rosas went 1-for-4 through their first 4 games of the season. He missed his lone attempt in New Orleans’ overtime loss to the New York Giants this past Sunday.
