Bryan Harsin will be losing some depth at quarterback to start 2021.

Backup quarterback Cord Sandberg has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz. The 6-foot-3, 222-pound quarterback has backed up Bo Nix during his 2 years at Auburn.

Sandberg confirmed the news via Twitter.

Sandberg hasn’t received much playing time. He completed just 1 pass this past season for 8 yards in the bowl game loss to Northwestern.

The signal caller played 6 seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league organization before coming to Auburn. Exiting high school, Sandberg was the nation’s No. 8 dual-threat quarterback and the state of Florida’s No. 33 overall prospect in the class of 2013, according to 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

The Bradenton, Florida, native originally signed with Mississippi State and Dan Mullen out of high school before eventually playing pro baseball.

It’s important to remember that just because a player enters the transfer portal, it doesn’t mean he will transfer. Other schools now have the opportunity to have contact with him if they’re interested.
