The absence of sophomore receiver Kyle Davis this spring was expected, as Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn opened his introductory spring press conference noting that the talented offensive player would be away from the team for “personal reasons” for the first half of camp.

“Kyle Davis is taking care of some personal business,” Malzahn said back on Feb. 28. “We expect him back (with the team) by spring break.”

Well, with Auburn’s spring break completed, Davis failed to make an appearance as the team returned to the field Tuesday.

Malzahn updated the receiver’s status soon after practice, saying Davis will continue to be away from the team indefinitely. The Auburn coach also indicated that he does expect Davis eventually.

Davis didn’t make a huge contribution during his first season on campus, making only 12 catches for 248 yards, and two touchdowns, but he flashed his impressive ability on the field last season — he also showcased his massive talent via viral posts this offseason. Should Davis fail to return to Auburn, the Tigers will be missing potentially the team’s best outside threat in 2017.
