Despite the recent uncertainty surrounding Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, the star of his 2019 recruiting didn’t waver in his commitment.

Five-star linebacker prospect Owen Pappoe signed with the Tigers on Wednesday during the first round of the Early Signing Period.

Pappoe committed to Auburn in May before a 7-5 season clouded Malzahn’s future at the school. Signing him should alleviate at least a bit of pressure on the coach, considering Pappoe is the team’s lone 5-star commitment in this year’s recruiting class.

According to 247Sports.com’s composite ratings, Pappoe is the top outside linebacker prospect in 2019. He’s also ranked as the third-best player in talent-rich Georgia and No. 15 nationally.

Prior to Pappoe’s signing, Auburn’s class included just 10 players and ranked 13th nationally, though his addition could help the Tigers jump a few spots up the board.
