Earlier this spring, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn revealed that reserve linebacker Cameron Toney would not be returning to the team after earning his degree from the school.

“Few player updates, Deon Mix is graduating, he is gonna be a fifth-year transfer somewhere,” Malzahn said at the time. “Cameron Toney is also graduating, don’t know if he’s gonna do that avenue (graduate transfer) or not, but I would say this about those two young men: They were a part of my first signing class as head coach. They are wonderful young men, they’ve done a great job here at Auburn. They have great families and they will be very successful in life and we will miss both of those guys.”

Toney has decided to continue his football career, and he announced his new school in an Instagram post on Friday afternoon. The linebacker will play at the FCS level next season for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

“First, I Want To Thank God, My Family, Coaches, Friends & Supporters For The Motivation & Love to Keep Me Going Forward. It’s a Blessing to Play The Game of Football 🏈& To Continue My Journey. I Will Finish My Football College Career & Receive My Masters From UTC (University of Tennessee Chattanooga). Again, Thanks to All Coaches That Reached Out To My Family & Gave Me An Opportunity To Play.#GoMocs #UTC #Chattanooga #Tennessee”

Toney will be eligible to play immediately at UTC, and he will also be pursuing his master’s degree. The linebacker saw limited action for the Tigers, and he totaled seven tackles during his three seasons at Auburn.
