Back in 2013, Cord Sandberg was a 4-star quarterback recruit who signed to play with Mississippi State and then-coach Dan Mullen.

However, professional baseball had other plans, as Sandberg was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the third round of that year’s MLB Draft.

Now, though, Sandberg is returning to college, trying to follow in Brandon Weeden’s footsteps of former MLB star turned NFL Draft first-round pick. As you can see below, he announced on Monday that he was committing to Auburn over schools like LSU and NC State:

Obviously, this is a big addition to Auburn’s 2018 class, as Sandberg will have four full years of eligibility (five including a potential redshirt year).

Could he eventually take over for Jarrett Stidham? Only time will tell, but coach Gus Malzahn and the Tigers must be feeling good on Monday night.
