Kenny Dillingham has hit the ground running with Auburn this week after being hired as the team’s new offensive coordinator late Sunday night.

But just how much will he be involved in getting the Tigers ready for their Music City Bowl clash against Purdue?

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn shed some light on that topic during his Thursday press conference following the team’s first bowl practice. Dillingham, who served as Memphis’ offensive coordinator for the past three seasons, began working with the staff Monday and was present at practice.

“Right now, he’s just getting acclimated,” Malzahn said. “He is getting used to our players, our coaches. Today, for the most part, he was just kind of seeing how we operate. Once we get to the bowl site, he’ll be up in the booth and will do some assisting, as far as that goes. But he will not get full force until we get to the spring.”

For now, it appears that Dillingham will mostly be focused on getting up to speed with Auburn’s roster. He will join other AU coaches up in the booth, but he won’t be calling plays — Malzahn has taken over those duties yet again — but the string of bowl practices will be crucial before the calendar officially turns to 2019 and Dillingham really starts getting hands-on with the team.

Auburn (7-5) faces Purdue (6-6) at 1:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 28 in Nashville, Tennessee.
