John Franklin III, who came to Auburn before last season to compete for the starting quarterback job, has been working with the wide receivers this spring.

After Tuesday’s practice session, coach Gus Malzahn said that Franklin will be spending a majority of his time at his new position from here on out:

It’s a safe bet that Franklin will occasionally play a snap or two here and there at quarterback for the Tigers, but his days of competing for the starting job are seemingly over.

Still, with the speed and athleticism he displayed in limited action last year, it’s not out of the question to think that Franklin could turn into one of the better wide receivers in the SEC this fall if he works hard at his new position.
