Auburn had another sluggish offensive performance last weekend against Mercer, winning 24-10 at home after losing four fumbles in the game. While the offense functioned much better than the previous week against Clemson, the turnovers prevented the Tigers from putting up many points.

Adding to the offensive woes, with Sean White recently being dismissed from the program, there is little depth behind Jarrett Stidham on Auburn’s roster.

During his appearance on the weekly SEC Coaches Teleconference, Malzahn talked about the matchup against Missouri and gave the latest update on the injury status of several of his players.

Here’s a summary of what was said during the call:

  • This will be our first SEC game of the season, it will be a challenge for us to go on the road and play a QB that can make any throw on the field.
  • Status of Darius Slayton/Darius James? Slayton practice Tuesday and we expect him to play, Darius James is likely to play.
  • Status of Marlon Davidson? He practiced Tuesday and we are hopeful (he will play vs Missouri). I don’t want to get into specifics on injuries but we held him out (last week).
  • How has Jarrett Stidham played in your opinion? He’s progressed well. I thought he did a great job with his progression and I think he’s getting more and more comfortable each week.
  • Will anything change with the RB rotation moving forward? You’ll see multiple RBs play, we have to get more consistent in our running game.
  • With Malik Willis, will you consider a package for him? I don’t know, I don’t want to reveal much. I will tell you this, we expect him to play before the season plays out. We’ll have to see how the season unfolds but he needs to be ready to play.
  • What does coordinator Kevin Steele bring to the program? Stability, he’s a real relationship guy, he’s got our defense playing really well right now.
