Checking in on the Week 10 temperatures in Auburn, Ala., …

HOT

The Auburn run game. The Tigers are coming off 395 yards on the ground against South Carolina and now face an Ole Miss team that beaten and bruised by a downhill rushing attack from Leonard Fournette and LSU. Auburn got two 100-yard efforts from tailback Cameron Artis-Payne and wide receiver Ricardo Louis. Head coach Gus Malzahn said a focus during the bye was to get more yards on the perimeter of the field, and the Tigers did just that. Auburn will need to pound Ole Miss up front, dominate the line of scrimmage and strong rushing performances from Artis-Payne, quarterback Nick Marshall and a host of others to beat the Rebels.

WARM

Mistakes. Auburn committed just four penalties and one turnover against the Gamecocks, by far its cleanest game of the season. The Tigers will need to duplicate that type of discipline on the road in a hostile environment against a team desperate to get back in the win column. Ole Miss’ defense is tops in the league at takeaways; Auburn can’t survive by gifting the Rebels the football and giving Bo Wallace and company more chances to put points on the board.

COLD

The defense’s ability to get off the field. South Carolina was a combined 11 of 20 on third and fourth downs against the Tigers. Its ability to extend drives led to the Gamecocks’ ability to put 35 points on the board and stay in the game. Third downs have been a problem area for Ole Miss all season long, but expect Hugh Freeze to be aggressive in his play-calling after seeing how much success Steve Spurrier had on late downs to move the chains.

FROZEN

Auburn’s chances in Oxford Saturday night. Last time the Tigers went on the road to a top 10 team with a good defense, Auburn turned the ball over on its first two offensive plays and was down 21-0 less than four minutes into the game. Nick Marshall and company must stay composed in the face of that Landshark defense that will be ready to feast. Mistakes must be limited, otherwise this game could get out of hand early.
