Auburn looks to be losing some depth on its defensive line as redshirt freshman Jay Hardy has entered the NCAA transfer portal following the conclusion of the first spring camp of the Bryan Harsin era.

Hardy, a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., signed with Auburn to play for Gus Malzahn and defensive line coach Rodney Garner. With Malzahn now at UCF and Garner now coaching the defensive line at Tennessee, Hardy looks to be on the way out on The Plains.

News of Hardy’s decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal was first reported by Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

The former McCallie School High School standout made headlines during his recruitment as he was expected to pick Tennessee during his first commitment ceremony, but instead, he surprised many by picking the Tigers.

Hardy then signed with Auburn during the Early Signing Period but kept that hidden and Tennessee continued to recruit Hardy until it was revealed that the lineman had signed with Auburn prior to his second commitment announcement which was scheduled for the traditional National Signing Day.

Hardy is the second Auburn defensive lineman in recent days to enter the transfer portal, following Jaren Handy, who did the same last week.

Here is Hardy’s bio as listed on the official Auburn team site:
