ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s name is synonymous with the NFL Draft. When people want to know where college players stand on teams’ draft boards, they turn to Kiper.

On Thursday, Kiper discussed Auburn junior DE Carl Lawson’s draft stock with reporters, calling him a potential first-round pick, according to the Ledger-Enquirer:

“If Lawson could have just stayed healthy his whole career and maximum all that ability on a game-to-game basis he would have been top 10 to 15 guy,” Kiper said. “He’s still in my opinion the eighth best defensive end and been as high as four or five. I think he’s got a chance to be in the first round discussion. I have him more of a second round grade right now.”

Whether Lawson declares for the 2017 NFL Draft or waits until 2018, Kiper said NFL teams will love the way he gets after opposing quarterbacks:

“He’s force to be reckoned with the way he comes off that edge,” Kiper said.

Lawson hasn’t made a decision on his future yet, but no matter what he decides, he seemingly can’t go wrong.

Lawson finished the 2016 regular season with nine sacks. He also participated in Senior Day activities in November.
