The 2020 season didn’t go very well for Cam Newton or the New England Patriots but both parties will give it another go in 2021.

That’s the latest news out of the NFL as the Patriots have resigned Newton to a one-year deal, which was first reported by Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.

Newton served as New England’s replacement for Tom Brady last season. While Brady helped lead Tampa Bay to the Super Bowl title, the Patriots went 7-9 last season and missed the playoffs. In 15 starts, Newton threw for 2,657 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions for the Patriots.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Newton’s new deal in New England “gives him a chance to make a little more than he did in 2020,” according to a source.

While the financial details of Newton’s new contract have not been released, the quarterback made $1,137,500 last season in New England. That’s an incredibly low figure when you consider Newton’s salary in Carolina his final five seasons with the team was worth more than an average of $20 million annually.

Here’s to hoping Newton’s next Camback is as successful as his first one.
