The Auburn hype train is running at full force this spring with near universal praise for the Tigers. With the addition of Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham, who hasn’t even been named starting quarterback yet, Auburn is being picked by many as the only true threat to Alabama next season in the SEC.

Despite all that Auburn seemingly has going for it this summer, following an impressive spring game showing by Stidham, there remains at least one holdout at the SEC Network. Judging by one of his latest tweets, former Arkansas quarterback Clint Stoerner isn’t ready to buy into the Auburn hype.

While reacting to a tweet praising Auburn’s chances, sent out by Paul Finebaum and quoting Tony Barnhart, Stoerner warns of the potential pitfalls of picking the Tigers as a threat to win the SEC West. The former Arkansas player turned college football analyst doesn’t seem to be buying the Stidham hype and cites not only the team’s lack of weapons but its losses on the defensive side of the ball.

Considering Auburn is nearly a 40-point favorite in the season opener at home against Georgia Southern, don’t expect any clarity to come when the season opens in less than 100 days. Instead, we’ll all find out how real Auburn is when the Tigers travel to the ACC version of Death Valley to take on the defending national champions Saturday, Sept. 9 in Week 2 of the season. If Auburn can come away with an early win on the road against Clemson, the schedule doesn’t look to test them again until late September or early October.
