Only the best kickers get selected in the NFL Draft every year, and it is safe to say Auburn K Daniel Carlson fit that description.

In fact, the Minnesota Vikings liked the SEC’s all-time leading scorer so much, they traded up to draft him in the fifth round of Saturday’s action.

As you can see in the video below, Vikings GM Rick Spielman got the honor of informing Carlson of the trade and ensuing pick:

“Hey Daniel, we just made a trade and we’re coming up to draft you right now,” Spielman says in the video.

“Really? That is unbelievable news,” an excited Carlson responds.

The Vikings just re-signed K Kai Forbath, but there’s nothing wrong with a little competition, and Carlson will have a chance to compete for the starting job this fall.
