During his portion of Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said his team still has some things to figure out on offense.

Fortunately for the No. 10 Tigers (3-1), they can fine-tune some of those issues against non-conference opponent Southern Miss (2-1) this week. Malzahn offered a preview of the matchup, which is set for 4 p.m. ET on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

On late-game situations, how do you prepare for those situations?

  • I think every coach has analytics for situations, but sometimes it’s just a feel for how things are going, who is handling the football.

After playing Arkansas, what did you think of the Razorbacks?

  • They played hard. Their defense played well, they have some guys that can play there. Ty Storey is a tough individual. … They have a new coach, new philosophy and sometimes it takes time.

On facing offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey’s former team, how much as he grown since his first time at Auburn?

  • He was an excellent coach back then. The year here, (when) he was my right-hand man, you could tell he was sharp. … He made the most of all of his opportunities.

Did you want to hire him back one day?

  • No doubt, no doubt. You could tell he would be a special coach one day.

What’s your evaluation of your offense after four games?

  • We have not played our best, no doubt there. But we have four games under our belt, and I think we can still be a good offense — in fact, I know we can. … I can see our players getting more comfortable each week.

On injuries on defense:

  • The last two weeks, we have been banged up. I think we are healthier than we have been those two weeks … (and) feel better than we have the last two weeks.
