Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has been criticized in recent days for saying he might travel this weekend for Easter.

He offered plenty of optimism about getting the 2020 season started on time, which is a thing the nation needs right now, but his comments about traveling seem to suggest he’s not taking coronavirus as seriously as many across the nation.

On “Highly Questionable” on ESPN this week, ESPN personalities Bomani Jones and Dominique Foxworth took issue with Swinney’s comments (via 247Sports):

“What’s so dangerous about what he’s saying is, he’s acting like we can just wish this thing away and that’s not what it is,” Jones said. “Stop being stupid, Dabo. ‘Cause right now, you’re being stupid.”

Foxworth added that he doesn’t mind the optimism, but the travel plans are a bit much:

“I am not encouraged by Dabo Swinney at all, but I appreciate he’s out here trying to give people some hope, I guess? The thing most alarming to me is that he’s saying he might go to Florida for Easter on a private jet, and he thinks that makes him safe,” Foxworth said. “I guess if I were able to build Clemson the way that he has then I would think I was invincible too.”

Swinney said this week that he isn’t backing down from his optimism, saying people just like to criticize him (via FOXNews.com):

“That’s the one thing I’ve learned and really have just accepted. It doesn’t matter what I say or what anyone says. There’s going to be criticism,” Swinney said during an appearance on SiriusXM radio. “I could say, ‘The sky is blue,’ and somebody’s going to be mad as anything. So that’s one thing I’ve learned over the years and I just don’t really get affected by that. I just speak my heart.”
