Dabo Swinney turned some heads this week when he came to the defense of Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

Sirius XM recently shared a clip of a Swinney interview from ACC Media Days in Charlotte. On the subject of Uiagalelei, who had his share of struggles in 2021, Swinney pointed out that the former 5-star recruit is not some random player from a no-name community college.

“My quarterback, you mentioned him. This dude is a freak. And people talk about him like he’s some slapdick from Eastaboga Community College,” Swinney said in the interview. “And this guy can play the game at the highest level. He’s going to play the game at the highest level.

“And he wasn’t great last year. He was awesome as a freshman. He was awesome his whole career in high school. He’s a winner. He’s got all the tools, all the intangibles. But he is better because of what he went through.”

Well, that’s one way to put it, Dabo. For those wondering, Eastaboga Community College does not return any Google results, so the Clemson head coach doesn’t have to worry about an apology.
