The NCAA has a history of tripping all over itself when it comes to decisions involving student-athletes, making baffling choices more often than not.

That was the case again on Tuesday. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence and his girlfriend, Anderson University soccer player Marissa Mowry, tried to start a GoFundMe page to help with COVID-19 relief efforts. It had raised over $2,500 for a pair of relief agencies.

Of course, as Mowry notes in the Instagram post below, the NCAA had to get involved and shut it down:

“Unfortunately Trevor cannot be a part of this anymore due to compliance and some rules, so he can’t help out anymore,” Mowry said in the above video. “And also we have to take down the GoFundMe page.”

The money that was raised before the NCAA shut it down will be sent to Meals on Wheels America and No Kid Hungry, Lawrence said in the video.

This is an unprecedented time we’re living through. You would think maybe the NCAA could relax its rules a bit to let a famous college football player help those in need. Nope.
