After a seven-year high school coaching career in Virginia, Beatty landed a job at nearby Hampton University in 2006 as the school’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach.

Beatty spent just the 2006 season with Hampton before going to Northern Illinois as the Huskies running back coach. After another one-year stint, Beatty got his first BCS coaching job with West Virginia.

From 2008 to 2010 Beatty was in Morgantown and became known as a recruiter under new head coach Bill Stewart. He landed the No. 1, 3 and 4 recruits in the nearby Virginia. The No.1 recruit Tajh Boyd decommitted after the Mountaineers started the 2008 season 0-2. At the end of the 2010 season Beatty was let go.

Beatty spent the 2011 season in Nashville as Vanderbilt’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. 2011 was James Franklin’s first season leading the Commodores. Beatty spent just one season with the Commodores  before going to Illinois to join Tim Beckman’s staff.

Worked in online, print, TV and radio. Bobby Valentine once wore a pair of my socks for 8 hours. In an awkward exchange, he handed them back to me to which they were immediately deposited in a trash can.
