Edwin Sweetland
Edwin Sweetland was a two-sport athlete at Cornell University in the late 1800’s and spent 20 years as a college football coach at nine different schools. He coached the Kentucky Wildcats for three seasons beginning in 1909, posting back-to-back winning seasons with a 9-1 record in 1909 and a 7-2 record in 1910. He left Kentucky to coach the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks in 1911 then returned to the Cats in 1912, leading them to another 7-2 record. He was 23-5 as the head coach at Kentucky and won 100 total games as a college head coach. He also coached basketball, track and rowing at the college level during his career. Sweetland passed away in 1950 at the age of 75.
