Gilbert Kelly played his college football at Princeton during the turn of the century, and spent one season as the head football coach at the University of Tennessee in 1901. His Vols finished the season with a 3-3-2 record and a 1-1-2 record against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association competition. Kelly passed away in 1948 at the age of 70.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
