J. B. Hildebrand was the second coach in the history of the Mississippi A&M football program (a.k.a. Mississippi State), posting an 0-4 record in 1896 after taking over for original coach W. M. Matthews. He had played football at Vanderbilt University before taking over as head coach at A&M.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
