After spending nearly two decades in the NFL, Joe Pendry returned to the college ranks in 2007 as Alabama’s assistant head coach and offensive line coach. A member of Nick Saban’s first Alabama staff, he announced his retirement in January 2011 after helping the Crimson Tide to a national championship.
He spent time as the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach or offensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins and Houston Texans as well, and coached for West Virginia, Kansas State, Pittsburgh and Michigan State in the 1970s and ’80s.
An itinerant journalist, Christopher has moved between states 11 times in seven years. Formally an injury-prone Division I 800-meter specialist, he now wanders the Rockies in search of high peaks.
