John C. Futrall was the first-ever coach of the Arkansas football program. He coached the then-Arkansas Cardinals through their first three seasons from 1894-1896. Arkansas went 2-1 in its inaugural season, 1-0 in 1895 and 2-1 in 1896. He also served as president of the university beginning in 1914. Futrall passed away in 1939 at the age of 66.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
