John W. Hancock spent most of his coaching career at Northern Colorado, where he coached multiple sports and worked as an administrator for more than three decades, but he began his career as the head football coach at Mississippi State from 1927-1929. Hancock was a combined 8-12-4 in those three seasons, posting just one winning season in that time (1927). He passed away in 1993 at the age of 92.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
