Murray Warmath

Murray Warmath spent most of his coaching career as the head coach at the University of Minnesota, but began his career as an assistant in the SEC at Tennessee and Mississippi State. He took his first head coaching job at MSU in 1952 and led the Bulldogs for two seasons before leaving Starkville for Minnesota. Warmath posted consecutive winning seasons at Mississippi State, going 5-4 in 1952 and 5-2-3 in 1953. He retired from coaching after the 1971 season with 97 career victories. Warmath passed away in 2011 at the age of 98.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
