Dietzel was hired as head coach and athletic director at South Carolina in 1966. Despite leading Carolina to the school’s only conference championship, the Atlantic Coast Conference title in 1969, Dietzel struggled to a 42-53-1 record with the Gamecocks. Dietzel announced he would resign in 1974, amid intense fan pressure.
After living in Birmingham, Ala., Jordan left the ground zero of SEC Nation to head south to Florida to tell the unique stories of the renowned tradition of SEC football. In his free time, his mission is to find the best locales around.
