Rod Dowhower has been a coveted NFL assistant coach for most of his career, but he hasn’t been a success as a head coach.
Dowhower lost 13 consecutive games to begin the 1986 season as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He also coached Vanderbilt in 1995 and 1996. His combined career head coaching record is 14-47-1.
Dowhower also has coached for the St. Louis Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles as an assistant in addition to college stops at Boise State, UCLA and San Diego State as an offensive coordinator.
