Sparky Woods spent four seasons as the head coach at South Carolina, four seasons as an assistant coach at Mississippi State, four seasons as an assistant coach at Alabama and one season as an assistant coach at Tennessee.
He compiled a record of 25-27-3 with the Gamecocks and also spent five seasons as Appalachian State’s head coach. He became VMI’s head coach in 2008.
His other coaching stops have included Kansas, North Alabama, Iowa State, Memphis, Virginia and the New York Jets.
An itinerant journalist, Christopher has moved between states 11 times in seven years. Formally an injury-prone Division I 800-meter specialist, he now wanders the Rockies in search of high peaks.
