Watson Brown has served as head coach for six different college football teams, including at Vanderbilt (1986-1990).

His best season with the Commodores came in ’87 as the team won four games and sported a 1-5 conference record.

Brown had four 10-loss seasons in the span of seven years at Rice and Vanderbilt and broke the NCAA record for most losses by a college football coach in 2013, reaching 197 for his career. In addition to coaching Tennessee Tech, UAB, Vandy, Rice, Cincinnati and Austin Peay, Brown served as an assistant at Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Jacksonville State and East Carolina.

Drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a shortstop, Brown also played quarterback for Vanderbilt and helped the Commodores upset No. 13 Alabama in 1969.
