March Madness Selection Show: 6 SEC teams land in NCAA Tournament
March Madness is upon us and CBS Sports has revealed the NCAA Tournament bracket.
Gonzaga was introduced as the first No. 1 seed playing out of the West Region. Arizona, meanwhile, is slotted as the No. 1 seed in the South, while Kansas got the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region, and Baylor is the No. 1 seed in the East Region. As for the SEC, overall 6 teams made it, as the first 2 teams introduced were Arkansas and Alabama, both in the West, and Auburn and Kentucky each received a No. 2 seed.
Texas A&M is considered “replacement team 4” in case COVID-19 protocols cause one team to be removed from the tournament.
“A year ago, Arkansas got a first-round scare from Colgate. Vermont plays a similar style with superior talent, Hogs better be ready,” CBS Sports analyst Seth Davis said on CBS.
Tennessee is the No. 3 seed out of the South Region after it won the first SEC Tournament title since 1979 with a victory over Texas A&M on Sunday.
“I thought Tennessee had an outside shot at a No. 1 seed, or at least a 2-seed, very surprised to see them on the 3 line,” Davis said.
Here are the SEC teams and where they landed in the bracket:
Kentucky No. 2 in East Region vs. Saint Peter’s
Auburn No. 2 in Midwest Region vs. Jacksonville State
Tennessee No. 3 in South Region vs. Longwood
Arkansas No. 4 in West Region vs. Vermont
Alabama No. 6 in West Region vs. Rutgers/Notre Dame
LSU No. 6 in Midwest Region vs. Iowa State

Alabama has wins over the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds in its region and losses to the No. 9 and No. 10 seeds.

Also, Tennessee being a three seed once again proves beyond a reasonable doubt: The brackets are set before Sunday’s title games.
No benefit to winning on Sunday at all.
Sad, but true.
