College football has returned. And the first quarter of the first game of the 2021 season was … well, something.

Nebraska and Illinois faced off Saturday in a Big Ten showdown, and those teams certainly didn’t get off to a clean start. The first quarter was filled with blunders, as the Fighting Illini had a 2-0 lead after scoring a safety on an illegal forward pass during a punt return.

The Cornhuskers got into the end zone less than a minute into the second quarter, with Markese Stepp scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run. However, Nebraska missed the extra point, so its lead was 6-2. It then couldn’t get into the end zone on its next drive, having to settle for a 27-yard field goal that made it 9-2.
