After Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy publicly downplayed the Sooners offense, Jalen Hurts and OU thumped the Cowboys.

Last week, Gundy said Oklahoma’s offense is a one-man show with Hurts under center.

“They’re a wishbone team, guys,” Gundy said. “They’re just lined up in the spread.

“The more I watched (film), I kept thinking there’s only one guy that ever touches the ball, and it’s him,” Gundy said. “It’s triple-option just disguised in spread is all it is. So, we gotta stop the quarterback, we gotta tackle him, we gotta get him down.”

The Cowboys defense couldn’t carry out Gundy’s wishes, however. Hurts and the Sooners’ offense racked up 450 total yards. Hurts threw for 163 yards and rushed for 61. He even caught a touchdown pass, combining for three total scores on the day.

Oklahoma was essentially battling Alabama (and others) for the No. 4 Playoff spot should Georgia lose to LSU in the SEC Championship Game. Things didn’t turn out well for Alabama, though, as Auburn beat the Tide 48-45 in the Iron Bowl.

Following the win over Oklahoma State, Hurts was asked if he’d seen the outcome of the Iron Bowl. He channeled his inner-Nick Saban on his reply.

“That sounds like rat poison to me,” Hurts said, via Eric Bailey. “We have to focus on Baylor tonight.”

Oklahoma will play Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game with a potential College Football Playoff spot on the line.
