Mike Aresco, AAC commissioner, throws water on the 'extra games' Playoff expansion argument
Mike Aresco is intimately familiar with the inner workings of the College Football Playoff expansion discussions.
Because of that, the American Athletic Commissioner, who is also well aware of the red herring arguments, poured water on the arguments from some conference commissioners that extra games is a deal breaker to expansion. Aresco was a guest on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Friday, and said that teams that had to play 4 Playoff games to win a national championship would, “probably crawl over glass to do so.”
“Teams that lose in the first round won’t play any extra games, and if a team got thru that gauntlet and had to play four Playoff games to win a title, they’d probably crawl over glass to do so.”

Aresco nearly 2 weeks ago wrote a letter about the situation, and explained why his conference strongly supports the 12-team expansion model, and hopes to see it implemented as soon as it’s practical. Aresco said this proposed model creates a better playoff with a solid foundation that has fairness, integrity and equal access to help the overall health of college football.
“We are on the clock, and our window is narrowing for an agreement on a plan that could be implemented in 2024 and 2025. And although frustration has intensified, there is still hope,” he wrote.
