During Pac-12 Media Day this week, commissioner Larry Scott floated the idea that, as soon as this season, the conference could explore moving some key games to the 12 p.m. Eastern time slot.

That, of course, is 9 a.m. Pacific time, which is where 10 of the 12 Pac-12 schools (other than Utah and Colorado) play. That seems quite early for football.

Washington State coach Mike Leach seems to think it’s a bad idea, taking to Twitter to question whether any fans actually want these early starts:

The responses to Leach’s tweet were overwhelmingly against the early start times. A fan responded to the tweet asking when game preparations would start for those early kickoffs. Leach said it would begin at 4:30 a.m.:

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet, so we’ll see if the Pac-12 goes ahead with this plan in 2019 or whether it takes a step back and looks at some of the factors involved before scheduling 9 a.m. (and 10 a.m.) kickoffs.
