It’s a move that Paul Finebaum said nearly happened 13 years ago, and he suggested Tuesday morning that it should happen now. The SEC Network host suggested a major shakeup to a blue blood school on ESPN’s “Get Up.”

Finebaum said the “wise move” is that Notre Dame should buy out coach Brian Kelly and bring in Urban Meyer.

“He’s good not great,” Finebaum said. “He’s never going to win a national championship.”

Finebaum said Meyer is the “best available coach in the country” and Meyer wanted to go to Notre Dame before he went to Florida.

“Notre Dame is a national championship-caliber program, but Brian Kelly is not a national championship-caliber coach,” Finebaum said. “There’s no recruit out there, unless you’re a Notre Dame person, a legacy, why would you go there? Why would you play for Brian Kelly and be good and not great, when you could go to Clemson, Alabama, all these other schools.”

Kelly is in his 28th season as a collegiate head coach and ninth year at Notre Dame. But the Fighting Irish are coming off a humbling loss at Michigan, 45-15, which means they’ve lost 11 straight true road games against teams ranked among the top 20. They’re 5-2 on the season.
