The haves and have nots is the dividing line. Tcu was left for dead when the SWC died and it will be left for dead again. In the world that players get paid and corporate sponsorship is going to take over , college football is once again going to divide . The Group of 5 or 6 , whatever it is will need to go ahead and expand with what the SEC/B1G does not want and they should have their own bowl games, championships. It would be a competitive league but not hugely watched. It just is what it is.
The vision isn't to kick people out, it will be to start a major league. Look through the top 25-30 stadiums and TV market draw and those are the teams that will compete in a major college football environment. If you want to watch smaller regional schools , there will be channels that they will dedicate to the regions. If we have seen anything , we have seen the importance of having many channels in order to broadcast games. If they want an ESPN 3/4 and take the next tier games, they will do it. Miss. St vs. Boston College. You have 2 markets that people will watch but most of the people in the nation will be watching Bama vs. Clemson and Ohio St vs. USC. I won't watch Anyone vs Vandy except my team and I assume you are the same unless you have a direct tie to Vandy. Just saying.
Those markets are just like all markets. Big schools dominate those markets too. Of tou are not a pay millions to play 4 stars, you will not be invited to the big leagues. Sorry.
Sadly, The vision is not to do nothing. It is for Sec/b1g as NfC/AfC. How long will that take, probably not as long as we think.
Aww, you are trying to include everyone. Reality is the ACC is the Big East all over again. All basketball schools are going to be left out in the cold. FSU,Clemson, Miami and NC and maybe Virg Tech will find homes. The other 9 are out.
I will eat crow if I am wrong. I expect nothing but the same from you. I would think the Aug 15 deadline is too soon but I will eat 1 helping on that date and 1 8/15/2024 if you are right.
You act as if 120 Million is a lot of $$. If Jimbo Fisher loses this year, he will fired with a 80 Million check within 30 days. I get our Alum has oil $, but the stock market is back to highs , if you don't think 120 m and whatever else they need won't be raised then your crazy. Your also crazy if you think ESPN won't be thrilled to get out of the Acc contract. They were so happy to get rid of the Longhorn network they pushed the silence of Texas/Ou to the Sec. Sanky had that deal done a year before the news got out. Espn gets out of Acc with plus 1 Notre Dame contract will mean Sec contract grows more. That is huge. How valuable is Fsu vs. Wake forest, Duke, etc vs Fsu vs. GA, A&M, Bama, Lsu. Must I go on. Stop fighting it and embrace the change.
Finally, a good article. Schedules will open up and not be restrictive and no more OOC games outside of 1-2 preseason warm up to help FBS teams left out. I have to say 20 teams allows for a 10 conference games allowing 1 annual rival game . You could have an intra conference 4-6 team conference playoff and 1 Natty Vs B1G. All the what's best for the SEC will be over, what's best for the product , imo.
13 years is a large spread. If you are right then when the 2 year CFP deal is over then the brand of FSU and Clemson will become no better than UCF and USF or maybe worse. Maybe you are right and those brands will dwindle off with Wazzou and Oregon St. There is no way the B1G and SEC will sign a deal for autobids into playoffs after 2026. There is no reason to sign this deal. Why would they include the ACC or the Big 12? It really makes no sense, but I guess you could be right. It just doesn't make good business sense for SEC and B1g.
OK, but A&M and Texas are now using funds that are funneled through the University to fund our teams per Texas state law. Just a ballpark but I would say that Texas and A&M are funding a payroll of 25M-35M this year and as we all know that number will keep moving up. So there are really only 2 choices in the big picture. 1- The top 24-28 highest money schools will have their own league or they will have 2 of 24-28 each that allows the big $ schools to have wins at that lesser schools expense. #2 keeps more people happy and more wins on the tables for all big $ schools. It's about the overall product now. Not the regional eyeballs.
LSUMC, You miss the point. It isn't about conferences anymore. It's about have leagues and allowing scheduling within these leagues to be open like the NFL. Divisions will come back into play most likely and be much smaller. It has nothing to do whether the SEC needs a team. It will be about making 2 leagues with the same number of teams and an alliance between these 2 leagues. Everybody is still trying to fit college football into regions and conferences and within 2 years that is not going exist. I would say the ACC will break up within by 2026. It just will.
STLGator, I think that is a smaller # than 60-70. I also think if you don't have the ability to have a payroll of 25 Million or more for your team than you won't make the league.
STLGator. You are starting to see the real picture. Contract law has it's place but so does alumni buying out a coach , paying for stadium renovation and in the case of the ACC, it is going to come down to who will buy out the contract. The SEC is not going to let the B!G walk in to the south and grab Miami, FSU and Clemson. The SEC may not care about Miami but Sanky will do everything with ESPN to make sure that Clemson and FSU are the next 2 dominos to fall. Don't think for a minute the SEC won't poach Oklahoma St and at least 1 up to 3 Texas schools from the Big 12.
By 2026, the plans of the League format will begin to be introduced. Pay up or get out. 2 24 team leagues. B1g and Sec. A big Playoff structure, with Natty in the end. It really is the only thing that makes sense for all the major football programs.

FSU and Clemson will probably announce in 2024 that 2026 is their start year.
Florida needs to realize that FSU will be in the conference as we become a league. The writing is on the wall for 24 team league. Texas is going need to realize that they did not leave the Big 12 behind, As Sanky goes for 24, we will see Okla St and probably 3 Texas schools. Maybe 4 or 6 divisions so some teams still have a chance to shine.
They want it to be something. Otherwise, they would have to admit success if the Ags win 10 and they surely don't want that to happen. Ags have had more BS thrown at the program to get recruits to leave etc. This time $$ might get in the way.
Have you looked at how Ole Miss schedule lines up? After a 3-0 start they should be 3-2 vs another 3-2 in the Hogs. Someone will start the last half of the season with 3 losses and Ole Miss will still have to play Georgia and A&M as well Hugh Freeze and don't tell me he doesn't want that one bad. Your ceiling looks like 7 to 8 wins. Good luck !
I'm intrigued with LSU. Everyone is calling for an incredible team.
wait until Ou loses to some of those teams. OU is about to see what it is like to play teams that you think you should beat like Kiffen and Freeze and lose to a highly paid for A&M squad. Good luck winning over 4 SEC games a season.
its all about that 4th team in the playoff. Currently the 12 will be SEC-3 B1G - 3 Acc -1 Pac -1 Big 12-1 G5 -1 Texas and OU are going to help cannibalize the SEC. They aren't going to be a Vandy and Mizzou who loses to who they are supposed to, while the 3 smaller conferences are going to stick a 12-0 and 11-1 team in running to take those last 2 spots. The article is really about adding 2 quality programs without getting weaker programs only makes too many big dogs that increases losses without an easy win. This allows a Utah/ USC/ Colorado/ Washington or Stanford combo get 2 in from the Pac. The ACC with a 12-0 Clemson and 11-1 FSU or Miami gets 2 in. Tcu at 12-0 and Baylor at 11-1 will probably end without a 2nd team in but don't forget the B1G is going to try to get a 4th team in too. BTW, the CCG is going to be eliminated when Saban cries he has to play an extra game and watches a 3rd place team get as far or farther than he does.
Ole Miss is going to be laughing this year. OlE Miss went 7-0 and then played LSu, Bama, A&M, Arkansas and Miss st. Only 1-4 beating A&M by 3 points. That almost was 7-5 season. This season. 2023- start off with 3 creampuff and 3-0 record, Then bama, Lsu, Arkansas, ( out of the top 25) Aggies and Georgia in games 9-10. Will Kiffens still be popping off at 4-6 after that. He will have to beat Miss st to be bowl elig. I got my popcorn ready.
Well after watching his presser, he either has a chip on his shoulder or just defensive when asked about his offensive scheme. It sounds defensive to me but only time will tell. You can tell from his speech and body langauge that he by no means will want to give Bobby credit if the Offense is better.
The one real positive is this 16 team format isn't going to hold very long. I have my opinion that this thing plays out with pay for play and salaries. The worst in the end is that the SEC grows big enough on both the East and West to split us into 2. The Deep south and the South West. What looks like it's different is really an older format under 1 umbrella.
just remember my statement about the refs and unless your SEC team is not even close in the game, then you won't see it but if your team has a real chance of winning in a very close game, you will see phantom calls, Kansas about to knock off #2 Texas 2005, ask Nebraska mostly about special time magically appearing time on several occassions or not clicking off at the start of a play. A&M in the last drive vs Texas a phanton Personal foul when the players bumped on the sideline. Iowa st will tell you how running backs can fumble at the one and Iowa St gets the ball in the endzone and replay booth gives a Touchdown to Texas to win the game. This you will see and hopefully remember this post and think, HMMMMM.
you guys are about to find out how Texas is going to work the SEC. Texas can be a 8-4 team in the SEC and will cause so much havoc. It only gets worse if they are better. By the time we get to next summer, you will be sick of hearing that they are coming and the parade you are about to see on ESPN will be unbelievable. You will see, but the SEC would have been better off giving the ACC a $$ deal and taking Clemson, FSU instead. But maybe I am wrong. NOT! I like the idea of playing them but the refs just love Texas. Look at last years Bama game 15 for Bama to 5 for Texas. They did everything they could to allow Texas to win. That is what you have to look forward to.
