Spelling is really reall hard apparently, play within themselves and within the game plan
Spelling is hard at 1am...coach* not couch
The hype and excitement for this game in Lexington is palpable. I have never heard such confidence heading into a game against Florida (when it's not been basketball season). With that being said I have a lot of respect for UF. 28 years is a long long time, I have never seen UK beat Florida in my life time, yes some of the time during that streak we lost the game more so than Florida won it, but regardless 28 straight is 28 straight. I do think UK is on the upswing, that undeniable. The school seems to actually care about the football program, we've got a couch who is doing a lot of great things and the talent gap is closing. In addition the university is forking over tons of cash to improve the stadium and practice facilities. To me this game is a toss up with maybe the edge going to UK because it's at home and the environment is going to be insane. On paper I think Florida has more talent in sheer size, speed and athleticism. But the number of stars next to a recruits name doesn't win a football game. I like that UK is experienced at the QB, WR, RB and safety position with dynamic playmakers with Towles, Stamps, Boom and honestly their entire receiving core. But Florida has a great D line and their secondary is tough. Having VGIII back is huge for the secondary. But this is their first road game with a new coach and a new QB in what should be a hostile environment. I'm excited but incredibly nervous. I hope this is the year the streak ends. I think after last year our guys should have a ton of confidence going into this game. I think they have to be careful to not be too jazzed and make sure they play witching theirselves and writhing the game plan. But that being said I think this game is a toss up. Fingers crossed this is the year the streak ends.
Does it make me less of a UK fan to think this article is a little ridiculous. I think that these two teams are very evenly matched. I don't think the talent gap is nearly as great as it used to be and I would actually argue that Kentucky is more talented at the skill positions, especially WR and RB and for sure at QB. With that being said, its still South Carolina and the old head ball coach and the game is being played in south carolina. I think for fans of either team to have this notion that their team is gonna blow the other team out of the water is ignorant. Maybe that happens, but I think its more likely that this game is decided by a few keys plays late. The key for UK is for Towles to play like an experienced QB and get the ball o his talented WR's and to be more accurate. UK will have a huge advantage in the passing game, can USC stop that and stop Boom. Conversely can UK remotely slow down the run. USC will come at them from all different angles and will snap the ball to numerous guys. The HBC will do whatever he can to get P. Cooper the ball in space. Can UK stay home and maintain gap assignments/coverage when USC is in the wildcat formation. I think it will be a good game and I hope UK can buck the trend of not coming up with the big stop needed to hold onto a marquee win (i.e at Florida and at UofL last year)
I posted this somewhere else, but it seems a better fit here so I apologize if you are reading this twice I’ve been a UK fan all my life an at times (especially during football) that has been a painful experience. Maybe this comes across as negative, but some of my fellow fans need to simmer down a bit. I think UK football is on the rise, but this is the ACC or the Big10. We still have a ways to go before I would be calling Florida fans and UT fans doormats. With that being said, if you followed football last year UK was two plays away from being 7-5 and there’s a huge difference in momentum from 5-7 to 7-5. I’m not saying people need to fear UK in football yet, but I think its ignorant to not see that they are on the rise. They have a coach and an administration who actually care, recruiting has been on the upswing and their new facilities are awesome. Unlike basketball, you cant turn a program around in a year or two. It takes time to get talent in and get that talent to be able to play D-I football, especially in this conference. But as a long time sufferer I think we are close. The talent gap is closing and I think they are gonna make a lot of teams sweat this year. I don’t know how many wins that translates to, but I think things are looking better for UK football…Sorry for the novel, but hey sometimes you just gotta rant and let it out
