Any writer that includes the following statement: "If the Tigers had managed to defeat Texas A&M to close out the regular season and Georgia in the SEC Championship, they were on track to be the first two-loss team to make the CFP." Is completely clueless. About 10+ teams could make the same wild claim. Hilarious.
The offense was great with Daniels, Nabor and Thomas...all gone. Next year will be interesting without Daniels making plays on his own and to his future 1st Round NFL receivers. The defense was arguably terrible and not looking much better for next year. Transfer portal is not the solution. What does next year...or Brian Kelly's 3rd year...look like? The third year is usually when you see what a coach really has both as a recruiter and in game decision guy. Is the arrow pointing up?
If Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas return, LSU will not lose three games again. If they don't, three or more losses will likely happen again. The Tigers struggled against a mediocre 7-5 Wisconsin team with Nabers and Thomas playing. But don't worry, 2024 is the year Kelly has his guys and not too much carryover from Orgeron.
A Big 12 regular season and championship game winning Texas squad that went on the road and beat Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium absolutely deserves to be picked/ranked over Alabama. Undefeated seasons for Michigan, Washington and Florida State means they have also earned their way into the playoff if they win their respective end of season championship games. Sorry SEC. LSU losing to Florida State and Alabama losing to Texas and then Alabama beating Georgia means it's a down year for the SEC. Scheduling more Power 5 out of conference games instead of FCS teams might improve the SEC's ranking in the future.
The LSU offense is dynamic only due to Daniels off the charts natural ability. LSU would be a .500 or worse team without Daniels.
What would LSU's record be in 2022 and 2023 without Jayden Daniels? Daniels is the whole offense.
Jayden Daniels is the only reason LSU has an offense. He makes up for bad game plans.
Moving Perkins inside was a classic Kelly move. He did the same thing to Jaylon Smith at Notre Dame...another 5 star uber talented linebacker. Smith ended up with just 3.5 sacks during his time at Notre Dame despite being a sure fire 1st round talent until he messed up his knee. Kelly wants people to watch the game and say.."Look at Kelly coach". He has issues with players being the focus and not him.
Kelly would have to admit he made a mistake. He will always believe he does not make mistakes...players do by not executing the way that Kelly had it drawn up.
Jayden Daniels is LSU's offense. Without him last year, LSU is 6-6 or worse. Brian Kelly thinks Brian Kelly is LSU's offense. LSU will not progress until Kelly changes his mind...he won't.
The problem is Kelly does not understand why his team was flat. He never will. Kelly wants to be the reason his team wins instead of the players. Perkins should be allowed to be Perkins...instead LSU has Perkins by Brian Kelly.
Kelly has never made a wrong call in his life. His players are the ones that have let him down. If the players do what Kelly tells them to do, they will score touchdowns on every play and his teams will always win. Kelly will always Kelly.
Yep, Kelly loves slow developing long pass plays with route tree readings by both the receiver and the QB...need to be on the same page. I am a big fan of Chris Klieman and what he has done at Kansas State...more with less, though he is starting to pick it up on the recruiting front too. Deuce was a game changer, but Klieman teams always find a way to run the ball. The entire offensive line returns with All American Cooper Beebe leading the way. Giddens is legit...did well last year...and Treshaun Ward, a transfer from Florida State, also looked more than solid in the spring. No worries on the running game front. Add in a now veteran QB in Will Howard and the Wildcats look ready for a big season.
"This is the first real piece of adversity we’ve had to respond to.” Uh, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Georgia pantsed LSU last season and now Florida State this season. Kelly must not understand what the word means.
Kelly loves slow developing plays. They worked really well for him at Grand Valley State where he won multiple national championships against D2 teams.
The funny part is Notre Dame fans have seen this before with Jaylon Smith. Smith and Perkins are similar talents that Kelly used in much the same manner...as QB spy/defensive back. Kelly's defenses preferred sending slow footed linebackers after the QB and they would never get there. Hilarious.
Do you really think either Nuss or Daniels wants to sit for the 2023 season?
It will be interesting to see who enters the transfer portal in the May window after spring football...Daniels or Nuss possibly based upon who is the presumed starter next year. Jayden Daniels was always the double edged sword for LSU...smooths over concerns about the offensive line in 2022, but might muck up the future LSU QB succession by staying in 2023.
If Jayden Daniels has a big game, LSU has a chance. If he is stopped, Georgia wins big. Kelly is not the difference maker, Daniels is.
Kelly's game plan is to have Jayden Daniels run around and make plays. If Daniels does not, LSU loses. Take Daniels off of this LSU team and what would LSU's record be? Daniels was the real difference maker for LSU this season not Kelly.
The game plan that has worked best for LSU this season is to have Jayden Daniels run around and make plays. If he does, LSU has a good chance of winning. If he doesn't, LSU loses.
LSU and Brian Kelly should beat Georgia easily this year since they have better talent than Notre Dame did when ND almost beat the Bulldogs in 2017 and 2019.
Jayden Daniels is a flawed QB with unteachable athletic talent. LSU would have been no more than 7-5 without Daniels. He willed the team to victory with his elusiveness and occasional on target passing.
Kelly drove Brennan out of town. Nussbaum or Howard behind a young offensive line was most likely.
I agree about Nussmeier slinging it all over the field. What would LSU's record be now?
Serious question for LSU fans. What would LSU's record be this year if Jayden Daniels was not the QB? Solid move by Kelly to get him...Saban hates mobile QBs...but Daniels also covers lots of weaknesses for LSU.
How about his wins from when he was the Women's Softball Coach at Assumption? True story.
If you take away his D2 wins at Grand Valley State, Kelly is not the winningest active coach. Kelly knows how to spin information. Did you know Kelly is the "losingest coach ever" at Notre Dame and #10 in win percentage at Notre Dame?
Where are the LSU fans that said the Tigers would go 10-2 with the talent LSU has? Did they think Brian Kelly would make it happen?
FSU should have stayed in a 4 man front and gotten one more sack to end the game.
