In my honest opinion, I like Robbie Ashford a lot but to win in the SEC you can't usually be one-dimensional as a QB. You have to make some critical throws to move the chains and to keep the defense honest. I truly think freeze needs to consider Robbie to be converted to some type of hybrid running back. His skill set is that and for now not a real NFL type quarterback or an SEC type quarterback that wins big games being primarily one-dimensional. However Auburn does not need any more running backs but his skill set is more useful in that format and maybe a slot receiver in a specific package to utilize his speed. Hugh Freeze is a quarterback wizard and he might be able to turn him into a RPO kind of quarterback next year but I feel like he needs some really good coaching and improved throwing if he's going to remain a quarterback. Just my opinion
I can relate Auboss! Y'all forgot the terrific trio if Bo Jackson, Lionel James, Tommy Agee. Aub use to be running back U! They also had some stud lineman to open holes up. My observation of Tank is seems to be holding back something. Coach H says he is healthy, I agree the line has got to be more aggressive and attack the defense and move people out as to give Tank and Hunter a reasonable chance of getting to 2nd level and break tackles. I hope we get it straightened out because we are going to need a good running game if we got a shot of running the table.
Nix needs to quit trying to play streetball this is Big Boy college football not pee wee. Nix's first reaction is, when he feels a little pressure is to start putting on his imitation of Johnny Manziel. I grant the receivers have to take some blame for dropping balls that probably should have been caught but when nix pulls his shenanigans by dropping back 20-30 yards several things happen, lineman cannot hold their blocks, wide receivers can't run the proper routes that the play was designed to do and they have to scramble everywhere to try to keep up with Nix's running around. It would be better for him to just step up in the pocket and get positive yards that would actually help the team. I also blame the coaches for allowing Nix's to keep doing this kind of crazy street ball technique, it'll obviously win a game here and there but it's not good sound technique and consistent play for a SEC quarterback to do to win big ball games and championships.
It is very obvious why Pittman's winning, I helped coach defense line in high school and we won a state championship back in 2010. A team that has a good offensive line and defensive line will always win.(this is Bear Bryant coaching for all you old timers) Pittman's particular scope of coaching and background was offensive line. Any team that is rebuilding has to start from the bare blocks of the game. Arkansas's offense and defensive line is very good and well coached. It all starts from those two units, look at Alabama Georgia every year, they have a superior line both offensively and defensively consequently they are always ranked high and win championships. Pittman is doing the right things, the right way at Arkansas. If he has time there, he will turn Arkansas into a great SEC West team that is no longer everybody's drum to beat. This kind of coaches understand football because they know how to take the very simplest building block part of the game, the line and use sound common sense basic fundamentals of the game and teach their players that they are family and they instill heart and hustle in their veins and install a never quit attitude. It's been my experience as a former coach to employ the same style of coaching and I saw a team that had a losing season that was very dismal in the prior year 2009. Both offensive and defensive line got overhauled and taught sound fundamentals and started playing together,in 2010 we played for a state championship and we won 21-0. That team had OJ Howard playing for them. Who was pretty good at Alabama. It all started by fixing the lines and install heart into the team and the team bought into it. This sounds like Arkansas's team this year. As a Auburn fan, Auburn must fix their line offensively and defensively, if they don't they will never become the stout Auburn teams of the past but may become the new Vanderbilt of the West. If Auburn fixes that, it can contend with anyone in the country. You fix the lines and you'll win big games and championships.
