Mark Jones and Rod Gilmour are quickly becoming the worst broadcast team out there. Gilmour took it upon himself to criticize Mark Stoops clock management at the end of the UK-Mississippi State game...the game that UK won on a last second field goal. Gilmour went out of his way to try and show how smart he was and how bad Coach Stoops handled it. Coach Stoops, when asked about the criticism from the broadcast booth on his call-in show, basically said anyone who questioned his clock management didn't know a thing about football. Seems he knew exactly what he was doing.
Uhhh...Boom Williams is a JUNIOR. It's amazing the factual mistakes this site keeps making. Really simple things that could be verified by a little proofreading and fact checking. Yet, all we seem to get is screen grabs of Twitter tweets from someone who actually covered the game.
That is a great point that people keep overlooking. Sure the final score was 34-6 but it was much closer than that, basically two 17-3 halves. Ask Jonathan Allen if he likes the thought of facing UK again? He commented post game that the UK game was the most physical game he's played in at Alabama. Plus, we're just now hitting our stride in terms of a great rushing attack with our 3 RB's...UK might not win a rematch against Bama, but it might actually turn out closer than most think.
I guess because he is still your AD until he takes over at Florida. Plus he respects UK AD Mitch Barnhart and the athletic department and medical staff at UK dating back to his time at UK. To me shows respect regarding a very serious medical situation.
Not real proud to point this out as a UK Football fan, but UK was actually up 35-17 at halftime. Southern Miss scored when UK's defense gave up a TD on a blown coverage with :26 seconds left in the 1st half. You know, if the writers at SDS actually reviewed the final stats or better yet, watched the game, you might not make as many mistakes as you do. If you want to be respected as a media organization covering the SEC then don't make silly errors like the one I had to point out.
Agree with the previous post. This is really a silly list. And while some mascots may not be "unique" (Wildcats, Tigers, Bulldogs) the story behind the name probably is. Rather than ranking in terms of uniqueness, maybe you should just have written a story of how each school came up with their respective mascot. Maybe not as interesting, but a lot more educational. And probably a more worthy read.
So how come the story on Facebook that links to this article on your website states that a "Kentucky Defensive Tackle Will Transfer". This is blatantly false as Coach Stoops indicated and the article confirmed, that Meant has left the team indefinitely for personal reasons. There is no indication at this time that Meant plans to transfer. I like this website, but the inaccuracies are really becoming troublesome and ruins any credibility you might have.
Plus their vaunted defensive line took a huge hit today. May not see as many sacks as the author imagines or expects.
Needing 7 yards...sorry omitted 7 yards...
You mention the close loss to Florida last year (and fail to mention the missed defensive pass interference late in the game) but forget about mentioning the loss two years ago in the Swamp. Kentucky played Florida even in the Swamp and should have won if you consider the refs that missed expired play clock near the end of regulation. Sure, a game's outcome shouldn't be decided (or blamed) on one play or missed call (and don't try to tell me that play clock didn't expire) but there is a huge difference between needing 2 yards for a first down vs. needing yards which is what it should have been if the refs hadn't missed the call. UK played well enough and was competitive enough to win either game and should have won both. The streak has to end sometime...might as well be this year.
PJCS over Commonwealth Stadium??? Seriously??? Have you visited both on game day? The stench (think cow poop) that emanates from the area around PJCS makes you want to hurl, and for that fact alone, they should have lost this poll. But I guess if you are going to PJCS because you can get a beer from the concession stands, then go on...
Yes, and I noticed your questions were relevant and substantive. You were one of the few media members who's questions had a purpose. I watched every day and while I didn't see each and every coach address the media, I saw enough media members ask questions that left me wondering "what was the point?" of asking that questions.
And I think the media asked a total of 9 questions, and about half of them were idiotic or not well thought out. Why would a reporter from Dothan ask about "the impact of Neal Brown leaving the program would affect UK?" This question not only is poorly times since Neal Brown left for Troy almost 18 months ago. So I am not sure why it's BBN's fault that the media can't come up with an adequate number of questions to ask. Most of the UK media asked their questions during the local media time.
It's not that Kentucky fans don't care. It's just difficult to shake the "basketball school" tag that everyone, including the media, places on the UK Football program. This is the first year the media didn't ask Stoops a basketball question, which is completely and blatently ignorant from a media standpoint. As Matt Jones stated recently, Stoops has done everything but win. Facilities are better, UK Administration is fully behind the football program, and UK has a loyal core of football fans. But when everyone is telling you that you don't take football seriously, it's a hard label to shake. Heck, you've even got the SEC/ESPN Network crew posting a graphic for UK's starting returning players (during Stoops presser) as DE Jason Hatcher (dismissed from the team this past spring), LB Khalid Henderson (graduated) and DB J D Harmon (who played but was not a starter). Simple research issues just like this shows what the rest of the conference thinks of UK Football.
And Craig Yeast's son Russ, is a recruit for the 2017 season. Really need to go back and do your homework.
Sonny Collins...Southwestern Kentucky??? In the Commonwealth, it's simply known as western Kentucky. Draw a line from Louisville to Bowling Green...anything west of that boundary is simply known as western Kentucky. Southwestern Kentucky, which doesn't exist...would be closer to Fulton or Clinton Kentucky, in FAR western Kentucky, but not Madisonville.
Not really. The kid had good size and was considered an undervalued player that UK was able to sign from the D.C. area. But Coach Stoops has been consistent with kids who violate team rules. If you do, you are gone. But with the secondary, most of whom were true freshman in 2015, the UK secondary will be one of the better secondaries in the SEC in 2016. Maybe next time you should review UK's depth chart before you display your ignorance. UK just landed possibly their best class EVER for 2016.
So how does a defensive back coach help the pass offense improve? Pretty sure you need to indicate Ansley helped the pass DEFENSE improve. Big difference there.
Uhhh...UK's Jason Hatcher is suspended for the Louisiana Lafayette and South Carolina game...the 1st and 2nd game of the year. That would be strange to be suspended for the season opener and a Thursday night game on October 15th (when they play Auburn at Commonwealth)
I'll readily admit we're only in Lexington during football season and it may be I've never "looked for it"...but I have never seen it at a UK tailgate...seen plenty of Bud Light though.
Bud Light is #1 in Kentucky. Never heard of Bell's Oberon. Don't think I've even seen it in any liquor store in Kentucky...but that would be limited to either Paducah or Lexington.
You might look just a bit closer...the writer states Pinkel is ONE of just two of SEC East Coaches ranked in the top half of the conference. I think you need to exchange only for one of two...
Due to renovations at Commonwealth Stadium, it is highly unlikely that UK will even have a spring game...unless they are able to move the game to Georgetown College or Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. The QB battle will have to be determined at another time besides the spring game.
How Vince Marrow from UK can be overlooked is beyond comprehension...
Baker tried to walk away...it was the LSU players who was running their mouths after the play. And it wasn't helmet to helmet from the replays...Jesse Palmer was claiming that Baker launched, and I'll admit it was close....but he clearly delivered the blow to Beckwith's midsection
Granted they missed the late hit by Regie Meant, but if called correctly that play wouldn't have impacted game as much as this play, if called correctly, would have. Just because a play is missed earlier in the game doesn't mean you turn a blind eye to violations later in the game. While the SEC explained who had the call, they didn't explain why the call wasn't made of if the ball was snapped before the play clock expired. I think most would agree that Florida didn't snap the ball in time and should have been moved back 5 yards.
