Dooley's record at UT: 6-7, 5-7, 4-7. But sure he was let go because he wasn't dreamy like Lane.
Sorry robert33tn but I'm not sure how one would think that the program was in better shape when Dooley left than when he got there. He inherited a 7-6 team that had T-2nd in the SEC East the year before. Thus, he still had talent to be able to make it to a bowl and almost beat LSU and UNC that first year as you state. However, the program then dropped considerably in recruiting and on-field play. They finished 6th in the East his final 2 years only winning 1 SEC game each year.
