Opportunity VU is an initiative to reduce (and in some cases eliminate) the cost of attending school that began in 2008 (post David Price and Pedro Alvarez). It applies to all students. Even as the school strives to minimize the costs for all students, most still have some portion they have to foot out of their own pockets which often leads to loans. Even Dansby Swanson had to take out a loan. Vanderbilt isn’t alone in their goal to minimize costs to the students. Schools like Rice, Notre Dame, Stanford, Northwestern, Southern California, and even UVA and UNC have similar programs. At the end of the day is actually leveled the playing field for Vanderbilt in terms of financial impact to students and in this case, baseball players. It creates a situation where students pay a similar price tag to instate tuition.
