Rumors are he was mad that hog nation didn’t pony up for Nelson, who just helped power bama to the final 4. He’s been looking since then.
"It’s also possible that a gauntlet of a schedule yields a 7-5 season" I would love to have a 9 win reg season but with that schedule, 7-5 / 8-4 is more realistic. Every team we play this year either qualified or played in the post season last year. No Rice or GA Southern on the schedule this year. No Cupcakes. That 5 game stretch from aTm to Auburn is brutal.
The post game interview from Smith after the beat down from Bama was classic. Smile, just smile. Deer in the headlights.
That positive was his recruiting classes. Many of those kids are still with the program and some are starters. KJ, Pool, Catalon, Stromberg, Limmer, just to name a few. The 2019 class was one of the better classes in hog history.
It was Brandon Allen who started for 3 yrs (13 thur 15) Austin had 2 yrs (16,17). I’m not sure BB started any other QB not named Allen. Why neither are mentioned or at least combined should have been considered and yes AC was much better than Boyd imo.
All the publications say 7.2, but I watched the entire game and he pitched 8.2. Check the play by play on the ESPN site. Rampage came in for the final 8th inning out. Vermillion closed it out.
"I can’t think of another coach anywhere who is like Jones" I can, Chad (left lane hammer down) Morris.
I think the assessment of the Zags/Hogs is spot on. This feels like a Smith/Kessler type of game but Holgrem is better offensively than Kessler imo. Kessler destroyed us defensively. However, we did win the Auburn game. Fatigue (or jet lag) may get the Hogs here as they are coming from the far east to the far west coast in a short time frame. When was the last time the Zags even left the PST time zone? We'll see if that is a factor. My rose colored glasses are on!! Hogs by 2 (fingers/toes/eyes crossed)
"the Hogs have already played 4 top-20 teams, splitting those games." Wasn't Miss State ranked? 17th I thought. Tx @ 15, Tx aTm @ 7, Georgia @ 2, Ole Miss @ 17. That would be 3-2 record vs top 20.
Interesting point about Drink and his preseason prep. Why do you say worst off-season prep ever seen? I’m sure they were not just playing backyard ball on the practice field and lifting whenever they felt like it, but you can’t deny the product on the field right now so your statement may have merit. IMO, Drink is a great offensive coach and recruiter. He has a very good class coming in 2022, good offensive core in RB Jones, QB Horn and WR Burden. However, he had better get some big bodies for the trenches. Im just now sure he cares much about the D. Most off coaches just hand it off the the DC and blame them for all D failures. Bobby Petrino comes to mind for me. Maybe Mullen. Gotta give him time to get his recruits in and hopefully he will learn about preseason prep / training and not have a revolving door at DC. He will get the recruits, but can he keep coaches? Or can he even lead coaches? Time will tell.
Missed FG, No 4th down conversions, strip sack score. Many things to point at in this game for the loss. Sure we may have been hosed by the refs on some calls, but all teams go thru that imo. Hopefully we can fix things next week against UAPB before the final sec stretch. Probably end up 7-5 but hopeful for 8-4.
Yea, I’m not buying that “not having as many playmakers” stuff either. If memory serves, Smith, spiller and wydermyer (or whatever that TE name is) are still on the team, and they destroyed our d last year. But that was with mond throwing the ball. Hopefully our d will put some pressure on the QB. I’m just hoping for a great game with a hog win…GO Hogs.
I think Jim Chaney had a lot to do with Pittman going to UGA plus the fact he and BB didn’t see eye to eye from what I remember. JC and Pittman have a long history together. I do remember BB bringing all the lineman to Pittmans house the night BB found out he was leaving. Was not a good look for BB.
I heard that he was still angry that he didn't get the job over Hammer Down and wouldn't speak to us because of it. Rumors as well though.
Being @ the game last night was the one of the greatest college football game experience I have ever witnessed. From the tailgate to stripe out to seeing Muss and bball team and kicking longhorn ass to the knee down to the storming of the field. The beer was flowing! The look on the Horns fans was priceless, dear in the headlights. Our tickets were next to the texas band. We only heard them once and that was at halftime. Gives us hog fans some hope of future success. Go hogs go!!
Hopefully the hogs will come out swinging.
